What It Means to Be an Associate at My Father’s Mustache
Being an associate at My Father’s Mustache is more than just a step in my career—it’s an experience that’s shaping me as an artist, a professional, and a person. Every day I walk through those doors, I’m reminded that I’m part of something bigger than myself. This shop isn’t just about hair; it’s about tradition, community, and passion.
Ever since I was a little girl, Debbie and Brittany knew my passion for hair. See the picture of Kaylea, Brittany's daughter, and I in the salon circa 2018! They always told me my dreams would come true if I continued to strive for them and never gave up. Having that kind of belief poured into me at such a young age planted a seed I carry with me every single day. Working alongside them now, in what they have built, has truly shown me what can happen when someone believes in you and gives you that chance.
As an associate, I’m constantly learning. I get to work alongside experienced barbers and stylists who take pride in their craft and are willing to share their knowledge. From perfecting classic cuts to mastering modern trends, every day brings a new lesson. Watching the detail, discipline, and confidence that goes into each service pushes me to elevate my own work and take my time behind the chair.
What really sets My Father’s Mustache apart is the atmosphere. It’s welcoming, authentic, and full of character. Clients don’t just come in for a haircut—they come in for the experience. The conversations, the laughs, the stories passed between generations… it all makes this place feel like home. As an associate, being trusted to contribute to that experience is something I don’t take lightly.
There’s also a strong sense of accountability here. Being an associate means showing up ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to represent the shop well. It’s taught me professionalism, consistency, and the importance of putting clients first. Every interaction matters, whether it’s a quick cleanup or a full transformation.
One of my favorite parts of being an associate is watching clients walk out more confident than when they walked in. Knowing I played a role—whether big or small—in that confidence boost is incredibly rewarding. It reminds me why I chose this industry in the first place. Hair has power. It can change how someone feels about themselves, even on their worst day.
Working at My Father’s Mustache has helped me grow not only professionally, but personally. I’ve learned patience, humility, and the value of constructive feedback. Growth doesn’t always happen in comfort, and this environment challenges me in the best ways possible. I’m encouraged to ask questions, try new techniques, and never settle for “good enough.”
Being an associate here is preparing me for the future I want in this industry. It’s laying a strong foundation built on skill, respect, and passion. I’m proud to be part of a shop that honors tradition while embracing growth and creativity.
At the end of the day, My Father’s Mustache isn’t just where I work—it’s where I’m becoming the professional I aspire to be. And for that, I’m truly grateful.
